Mark Ronson’s new record is set to feature an Aussie flavour, with the musician confirming that Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker has a guest spot on the new album.
Next month marks four years since the release of Mark Ronson’s latest album, Uptown Special. In the meantime, the musician has been pretty busy, featuring in an Amy Winehouse documentary, and producing albums by the likes of Lady Gaga and Queens of The Stone Age.
Now, he’s set to release his next solo album, and it’s shaping up to be a big one.
Speaking to NME recently, Ronson noted that his new record only features guest vocals from female musicians, but that Kevin Parker has contributed to at least one track.
“We have a song that we wrote together for my record called ‘Laurie’ that we’re working on,” he explained.
Of course, it should come as no surprise that the pair have been working together, having collaborated on a number of projects in the past, including an amazing Like A Version performance back in 2015.
Most interestingly, Mark Ronson also revealed that he’s been privy to some previews of the new Tame Impala record. “I’ve heard some shit and it sounded amazing,” he gushed. “like that’s a surprise to anyone.”
“It’s pretty mind-blowing and great.”

However, one question that people are undoubtedly asking Mark Ronson is how will be able to create a worthy follow-up to a worldwide smash such as ‘Uptown Funk’?
“That song was four years ago now,” he began. “Obviously because I produce records for other people and write shit for other people, there’s been plenty of stuff that I’ve worked on since then.”
“I guess, technically, this is the follow-up to ‘Uptown Funk’, but it’s a different world. I love ‘Uptown Funk’, and I’m so grateful for all the shit that it brought – getting to the Superbowl, and getting videos from my friends of their kids [singing along] every couple of weeks – it’s amazing; that song is great.”
“I think there was no… thing in my mind of, ‘Oh, I’ve gotta follow ‘Uptown Funk’. I think I fell into that trap with a few singles and shit that I put out since then, but this feels like a different project.”
However, if you’re wondering when me might hear the finished project, it turns out that even Mark Ronson isn’t sure. “I don’t really know!” he explained. “I didn’t know when we were gonna put this record [‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart‘] out. Miley was like, ‘November, let’s go’. So now I’m like, ‘Oh, I better go finish this thing!’”
While we’re not sure when Mark Ronson’s new record will be dropping, Tame Impala’s latest album is supposedly on-track for a mid-2019 release, so that’s something to add into your calendars.
