Meghan Trainor‘s father was the victim of an alleged hit-and-run incident over the weekend. TMZ reported that Gary Trainor, who is believed to be in his 70s, was crossing a busy road in Los Angeles on Friday night when he was struck by a car. Upon hitting Mr. Trainor, the car is alleged to have fled the scene.

Mr. Trainor was rushed to the emergency room of a hospital in the nearby San Fernando Valley area. His condition remains stable, a spokesperson for Meghan Trainor has confirmed. Details relating to the car and its driver have not yet been released to the media. It is unclear when Mr. Trainor is expected to be released from hospital.

Like father, like daughter

Meghan Trainor credits her father as an enduring influence on her musical career. Most famously, the “All About That Bass” singer took her father to the Grammys in 2016 when she took out the award for “Best New Artist”.

Gary Trainor also played organ in the church choir in which Meghan sang as a youth, and even played the piano on her 2011 independently released record, Only 17. Meghan Trainor also credits her father as influencing her passion for soul music. In 2016, she told Billboard that, “My dad thinks he’s James Brown sometimes. He’s very soulful.”

Most recently, Trainor appeared with her father on The Voice UK last month. While his daughter his a judge on the show, Mr. Trainor showcased his own musical prowess on the series’ 2020 premiere. The former church organist performed the rock & roll classic, “Shake, Rattle & Roll” as millions watched around the UK and abroad.

Though Mr. Trainor’s condition is thought to be stable, TMZ have reportedly contacted Los Angeles police to pursue the matter further. There is no word yet as to the outcome of their investigation.
