This is certainly one for the history books. Almost 1% of the entire population of Finland attended the Metallica concert at Kantola Event Park, Hämeenlinna on Tuesday night. The heavy metal heavyweights drew in a crowd of 55,000 people — almost one per cent of Finland’s 5.5 million population. The gig is officially the biggest concert ever in the country.

As is a tradition on the WorldWired tour, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo banded together midset to perform a cover of “Kuuma Kesä” by hometown heroes Popeda as part of their “guitar doodle.”

Metallica commemorated the milestone in the most heartwarming way, by donating one euro from every ticket sold to the Finnish children’s charity Hope. The charity aims to raise money to support the passions of over 200 children each year.

The Metallica WorldWired tour is certainly proving itself to be one of the most exciting tours in history. Earlier this month, the band shared epic footage of them playing their classic track ‘Master of Puppets’ during a rainstorm in Manchester, England.

In June, during the Netherlands leg of the tour, Metallica invited 13-year-old drummer Evan Adamson, on stage for his birthday, who sat in on a performance of ‘Seek & Destroy’.

“Oh god, Lars shrunk,” frontman James Hetfield jokes upon seeing Adamson. “They put Lars in the wash. Told them not to put him in the dryer.”

Metallica will be gracing Australian shores later this year. The band will be bringing along our masked overlords Slipknot. Check out the tour dates and ticket information for the Aussie leg of the WorldWired tour below.
