UPDATE 13/11: Morrissey has since defended the actions of the fan, denying he was ever attacked.

Morrissey was attacked on stage by a punter at his Copley Symphony Hall show in San Diego on Saturday Night, as TMZ reports.

Morrissey was gearing up to close the show with an encore performance of “Everyday Is Like Sunday” when the stage was stormed by a bunch of concert attendees. One of the audience members that took to the stage appears to have attempted to punch on with Mozza. Watch the footage below.

The aggressor was then placed in a chokehold and removed from the venue whilst Morrissey exited the stage.

Morrissey’s manager has since released a statement on Morrissey’s Facebook, writing “Nobody tried to punch M last night. Morrissey’s fans are not malicious. The fans were simply doing what they have been doing for almost 30 years. Trying anything they could do to jump onstage and touch him, or hug him. The fan in question was certainly more aggressive in reaching out for him than most, so security had to do their job and subdue the fan. That’s all it was. In the end, no one was hurt, and no one was arrested.”
