Hard-rock veterans Mötley Crüe have announced the soundtrack for their upcoming film, The Dirt, sharing one of the first new songs recorded by the band in years.

Back in 2001, Mötley Crüe released The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band. Written by the band and Neil Strauss, the book tells the story of how the band became one of the most notorious rock acts in the world.

After initially being optioned as a film back in 2006, we’re finally going to see a movie adaptation of The Dirt next month, with the official trailer for the film being released this week.

However, while Mötley Crüe announced their breakup back in 2015, that hasn’t stopped the iconic rockers from getting back together to record a handful of new songs for The Dirt‘s soundtrack, including one unexpected Madonna cover.

Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, the band described how they got back together after a less-then stellar split to record four new tracks for the soundtrack.

“Me and Tommy hadn’t really talked or seen each other since the final show, and we went to New Orleans to visit the movie set,” explained bassist Nikki Sixx. “We’d just needed a breather from each other from over 30 year of being in each other’s faces. It was so nice when me and Tommy started hanging out again.”

Mötley Crüe also explained how they began writing “a bunch of songs” called ‘The Dirt’, and ended up recruiting rapper Machine Gun Kelly (who also stars as Tommy Lee in The Dirt) to perform on the track.

“I’ve been trying to get him on one of my [solo] tracks, and schedules haven’t worked out,” explained Tommy Lee. “But he got right back to us and jumped on the track.”

“I was like, ‘Fuck, I’ve been trying to get you on one of my tracks forever, dude.’ I’m gonna kick his ass later. But I love it. It came out great.”

Most interestingly though, one of the new songs on the soundtrack to The Dirt is a cover of Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’, which sees the group tackle the pop legend’s breakthrough hit in their trademark style.

“I heard the demo and it was like, ‘This is fucking genius,’” Tommy Lee explained. “When it drops down into half-time, it gets so heavy. This is right up our alley and sort of ironic that Vince is singing ‘Like A Virgin,’ which is not even close. Or for that matter of fact, all of us.”

Of course, with the group back together recording new music, some fans have wondered if the band would indeed be getting back together for live performances.

However, it seems that the famous “cessation of touring agreement” that Mötley Crüe signed prior to their final tour is indeed in full effect.

“Sometimes I look out at my friends, like the guys in Aerosmith and Metallica, and I’m like, ‘God damn it, did we retire too soon?’” Nikki Sixx questioned. “But there will be no one-offs in our future.”

“Maybe we’ll just get together and jam in Mick Mars’ front room.”

The Dirt is scheduled to be released on March 22nd, while pre-orders for the soundtrack are available now.
