Evanescence has announced they’ll release a new album in 2020 titled The Bitter Truth, and have also come up with a novel way of getting quarantined fans engaged ahead of its release.

Taking to Facebook, the band revealed that the first tune will be released next Friday, titled ‘Wasted On You’, but some lucky fans will get to preview it in advance.

A group of 50 fans who pre-save the record in advance will be selected to listen to the single on a Zoom call with the band’s Amy Lee the day before it releases.

“We promised you a new album in 2020 and we won’t let anything stop us,” Evanescence said. “We are proud to begin sharing our new album ‘THE BITTER TRUTH’ with you, one piece at a time, starting with our first song “Wasted On You” next FRIDAY!”

The Bitter Truth is the band’s fifth album, and their first since 2017 release Synthesis.

Last year Lee said the new record will bare some similarities to their 2006 effort The Open Door, “I listen to our new music every day,” Lee said.

“I’m absolutely living in it. This is always the case for me, really, but I’m in the centre of the zone right now, watching the picture take shape and swimming inside every new piece as it appears. I can’t wait for you to hear it.

“It’s dark and heavy. It’s also got moments of weird and sparse. A little bit of everything. Definitely some Open Door vibes but not the same.”

Earlier this year Lee told Loudwire that the record is going to be “risky” and has “a lot of attitude.”

“The songs came from all different places, they’re not all in the same vein,” she said. ““It’s definitely 100 per cent us. But it’s also taking risks, and I think it’s meaningful — deeply meaningful… A lot of it has an attitude.”
