The king is dead, long live the king Jack White. Side-stepping the minefield of failed collaborations such as Metallica and Lou Reed, dubstep god Skrillex with the surviving members of The Doors, and Jimmy Barnes dance-crossover attempt, White has managed to dip his toe in the murky waters of musical partnerships and somehow come out unscathed.
Last year we were treated to what was promised as the first of many projects White was working on when he teamed up the Insane Clown Posse for the single ‘Leck Mich Im Arsch’. Continuing on that trend, something his record label is calling the ‘Blue Series’, White has today released a single with ultimate crooner Tom Jones.
The hook-up with Insane Clown Posse and White came about when they bumped into each other at an airport, so we’d love to know the no doubt bizarre story of how Jones and White crossed paths. Regardless according to White the 71-year-old singer “impressed the fuck out of everybody,” in the studio where they chose Howlin’ Wolf’s iconic track ‘Evil’ to cover.
The track will be released on White’s Third Man Records label as part of their ‘Blue Series’, along with a new version of Jones’ 2002 track ‘Jezebel’. It is due out on March 19. Both tracks also feature Jack White’s bandmates in The Raconteurs Patrick Keeler and Jack Lawrence as well as My Morning Jacket’s Tom Jones.
Jack White debuted his first solo single ‘Love Interruption’ online last week and will release his debut album Blunderbuss on April 23.
