Lily Allen’s been out of the music game since 2009, and for anyone who saw the TV miniseries Rags To Riches knows, in that time she managed to launch her own fashion rental shop with her sister Sarah, got married (to Sam Cooper), suffered a misscarriage, and start her own record label (In The Name Of). She’s been a busy lass, but now she’s returning to the field we all know her for.

The BBC reports that the former pop star is returning to the world of music with news that she’s been back in the studio working on new material. The news came from Allen herself, who cheekily tweeted back to internet purveyors of pop, Popjustice, after they poked fun at Lilly for not releasing any material.

Greg Kurstin of course, being the producer Allen worked with for her world-beating sophomore album, It’s Not Me, It’s You from 2009. Kurstin specialises in working with feisty female artists, having previously worked alongside the likes of Santigold, Ladyhawke, Ke$ha, Marina and the Diamonds and Sia.

Allen went on to tweet that at this stage they were simply feeling material out, “I’m just throwing shit at the wall and seeing if anything stick… It’s no big deal really.”

Her enthusiasm may have been rekindled by the songs she was writing and recording for the upcoming stage production of Bridget Jones’ Diary.

For her legions of fans, Allen’s return to music is a very big deal. In 2009, Allen announced that she’d be bowing out of the pop world and her final live performance was in September 2010, supporting Muse at Wembley Stadium, before turning to focus on her business pursuits and on raising a family with husband Sam Cooper.

After suffering two tragic miscarriages, Allen finally gave birth to her first child, Ethel Mary, last November.
