Tyler, The Creator has released the official tracklist for his upcoming sophomore album Wolf, the highly anticipated follow-up to his bold and controversial debut Goblin, and it features a winning list of intriguing collaborators.
The release of 2011’s Goblin launched Tyler and his Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All collective into the stratosphere, and suddenly the bunch of skater kids from Los Angeles became some of the most talked about names in hip hop.
As Billboard reports, the leader and most well-known MC of Odd Future, Tyler’s second solo venture sees him working with the likes of Pharrell Williams (which Tyler described in a tweet as “PROLLY NUMBER ONE MOMENT OF MY LIFE FORSURE”), Frank Ocean, Erykah Badu, Quadron’s Coco O and Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, as well as the expected inputs from fellow Odd Future wolf pack members Earl Sweatshirt and Hodgy Beats.
Thankfully, the rumours of a Dave Matthews collaboration speculated by XXL Mag didn’t quite come true. Luckily, OFWGKTA associate Frank Ocean has taken Matthew’s rumoured spot on “Escape-ism”. The highly anticipated follow-up to his bold and controversial debut Goblin… features a winning list of intriguing collaborators.
The unveiling of the full Wolf tracklist comes after a series of sneak peaks from the hip hop artist, the first of which was a performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon of the jazzy duet with Coco O “Treehome”. It served as a peculiar first sight of his new work, with Tyler sitting behind a piano providing the keys to Coco’s silky ’60s crooning, even assisting her with ballad duties.
However, when the pounding beat of “Domo23” kicked in and Taco literally kicked Coco off the stage, it all returned to normal: quick fire spits, foul-mouthed rhymes and shouting chants of “Golf, Wang”.
Tyler then released “Domo23” as the album’s first single last week, complete with an accompanying video filled with lucha libra wrestling, horrible wigs and a cameo from Earl Sweatshirt as ref.
The video (which you can view below) ended with brief preview of another track, “Brimmer”, which features both Laetitia Sadier and Frank Ocean and even includes a name drop of none other than our own Tame Impala (“Pop in some Tame Impala/ Your man got a lame impala).
Tyler is clearly a fan of the Perth band, tweeting about them regularly in the past, saying of their world-conquering album Lonerism: “New Album Is Sooo Sick. Lonerism. Everyone Should Listen If You’re Into That Type Of Stuff.”
