It seems that fronting one of the most critically acclaimed prog metal bands in the world is a lucrative business.

Just take a look at how Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan has been living it up in his Hollywood Hills mansion, which has just been placed on the market, offering a glimpse inside the rock singer’s unique home.

As an extensive gallery of images taken inside Kennan’s property on the Keller Williams property listing demonstrate, the singer’s tastes for interior decorating are nothing if not singular. But then what else would you expect from the man who pens and voices such visionary lyrics for Tool, A Perfect Circle, and his own solo project, Puscifer?

Of course if you’re an über-diehard fan, you could always put in an offer for the garish LA mansion, on the market for US$ 2,795,000, as Metal Insider (via Curbed LA) reports. Much like the virtual tours we’ve had of John Lennon’s countryside getaway and Dave Grohl’s beachfront condo, it offers an interesting bit of insight into the lifestyle of its owner.

The Keller Williams listing describes the four bedroom, six bathroom property as being “tucked underneath the Hollywood sign [at] 3180 Hollyridge Dr. Sited on a ridge at the top of Beachwood Canyon.” It also highlights the lack of adjoining neighbours, offering “privacy and seclusion for the discerning.” Just as you’d expect the enigmatic frontman likes it when inking up words to go with mathematically convoluted riffs and polyrhythms.

As expected, there’s also an on-site recording studio space and plenty of space to relax by the outdoor courtyard and pool. And just look at the amazing pool-side view!

The main house is “Mediterranean in design”, but we’d be more inclined to call the interior ‘Psychelicious Villa’. The 11,580 square foot mansion also contains an outlying courtyard area that leads to separate guest house and stand-alone garage.

As for why Keenan is giving up his Californian living quarters, its likely due to the fact that he’s now shifted operations to his Arizona-based Merkin Vineyards where he produces his award-winning Caduceus Cellars wine as the stronghold-come-recording studio’s “cellar rat” as Keenan put in his 2013 interview with Tone Deaf.

It’s also where he’s been basically twiddling his thumbs while work on the epically delayed new Tool album continues at a sluggish pace.

Fans recently rejoiced at direct word from guitarist Adam Jones that the hugely anticipated record was “100% done” and due this year, as previously reported.

But alas, it has since been proven that Jones was “just kidding.” The reports that Tool had completed the album were taken from a pre-show VIP Q&A session in Portland, Oregon where Tool checked in as part of their first US tour in two years. But Jones revealed that his quote was ballooned out of context.

The fact that so many media outlets were quick to grasp the news as authentic (guilty as charged) only proves how badly want the long-gestating, much-delayed follow-up to 2006′s 10,000 Days. The album has been seven years in the making, not the longest wait ever (just ask fans of The Avalanches), but even by Tool’s epic standards, their newest effort has been a troubled one, affected by drama between bandmates – as both Jones and drummer Danny Carey have revealed in the past.

While the music world is forced to continue to wait patiently, be sure to check out our anniversary piece on Tool’s 1993 debut album Undertow, and take a look at more images of Maynard’s spaced-out mansion below.
