Nick Cave suffered a brutal public torturing on Tuesday that lasted a whole 65 minutes, but he miraculously lived to tell the tale.
By torture, we mean that Cave was seemingly forced by his PR team to interact with fans over Twitter to promote Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ 15th album with The Bad Seeds, ‘Push The Sky Away’. It’s more pain than any morose crooner should ever have to endure.
At Tone Deaf we’re encouraging fans to send their prayers to Cave with the hashtag #PrayForNickCave, wishing him a smooth and speedy recovery before Grinderman’s reformation at Coachella in April, which will be the band’s first performance since declaring “that’s it for Grinderman, it’s over, see you in 10 years,” in front of a packed Meredith amphitheatre in 2011.
Cave’s horrendous ordeal started at 4:15am AEST. He put on a brave face and was highly enthusiastic right off the bat, replying to the first of his #AskNickCave questions with the bubbly personality he’s known and loved for. It only got better from there:
.@RonanFay I am hating this… beyond measure and I haven't even started yet. #aksNickCave

He was questioned about his charming public persona;
.@emer_o_r you have no fucking idea. Morose? I'm just getting started.
— Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (@nickcave) February 19, 2013
Remained calm in the face of adversity;
@MissVonDunajew fuck you
— Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (@nickcave) February 19, 2013
Revealed that he has a soft spot for E.T.;
@marcrodrig shit yeah
— Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (@nickcave) February 19, 2013
And perfume;
@StarCharmer82 I have a complete aversion to all perfume
— Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (@nickcave) February 19, 2013
Talked about briefly experimenting with recreational substances;
.@Old_Red_Dog Early period, largely positive. Middle period, more problematic. Late period, total destruction. #aksNickCave

And revealed his motivation behind resurrecting Grinderman.
.@NRDarcy every other shitty band is doing it, why not someone who's actually good. #askNickCave

Following his torturous Twitter ordeal, Cave is no doubt looking forward to hitting the road, with him and the Bad Seeds embarking on their (nearly sold out) Australian tour from next Tuesday, before jetting stateside for SXSW 2013, as one of more than 40 Aussie acts are already confirmed to be flying the flag for their country at the ten day music and media conference.
The band will be kick-starting their North American tour with a SXSW showcase on March 13th, headlining NPR’s annual event, held at Stubb’s. Along with the Bad Seeds NPR gig, Cave will also be interviewed by New York author Larry “Ratso” Sloman as part of SXSW Film on Tuesday 12th March in an event titled ‘Nick Cave in Conversation,” which will cover his music and film work, perhaps including his forthright views on the screen violence portrayed in Lawless, the film he wrote, soundtracked, and even made a cameo in.
Let’s hope Cave’s gracious host doesn’t leave the questions up to Twitter. Actually, on second thought, it would be entertaining.
