Currently touring the country with a string of sold out shows, Tame Impala dominated American TV screens on the eve of their US tour, nailing a performance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

Playing a favourite from 2012’s Album of The Year Lonerism, the band delivered the psychedelic ‘Elephant’ to the adoring American fans.

The performance (which you can view below) had show host Jimmy Fallon turning all giddy, boasting that Tame Impala’s US television debut was on his very show years earlier when promoting their debut album Innerspeaker.

American audiences would now find it hard to not recognize this Perth mega group, with ‘Elephant’ featuring on a huge ad campaign for the latest Blackberry smartphone, on top of Lonerism already cracking the US Top 40 off the back of their tour of the country last year.

Not to mention the US tour which will see the outfit travel far and wide across American soil, drenching our international friends in the wonders of Tame Impala’s grooving indie rock. With an already jam packed list of US shows in Februrary/March this year, Tame Impala announced an additional flourish of dates in May/June, bringing the total to 25 US shows. A large proportion of these are already sold-out, as they continue to make great strides in the American market.

The band will complete the majority of their American tour before returning to their roots in April/May to play Australia’s Groovin The Moo festival – which itself has already sold out in Bendigo and Maitland – then Tame Impala grace America once again for their final round of shows in May/June.One would hope that the order of their television performance and tour would deliver the same attention from the American market that Gotye received doing the same thing just a year prior.

If Gotye’s world-breaking success is anything to go by, Tame Impala’s hard work is beginning to pay off.

Australian artist Gotye made great strides in America, which lead to the Kimbra-featuring duet ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ being named by Billboard‘s Hot 100 as the highest selling single of 2012, and was soon followed by sweeping the American music industry’s night of nights, winning three Grammy Awards at the 55th Annual Awards Ceremony in February.

With Tame Impala’s US television appearance kicking off their string of US shows, the team have barely stopped for breath. One would hope that the order of their television performance and tour would deliver the same attention from the American market that Gotye received doing the same thing just a year prior.

That is, in fact, how America’s love affair with Gotye, and his ubiquitous single, all began – in one major foothold: US Television.

On his rise to the top of the US charts, Gotye stopped in to appear on popular comedy skit show Saturday Night Live, via proxy with covers on primetime television programs American Idol and Glee, and all starting with his first US appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live early in 2012.

Tame Impala are gathering huge momentum with their huge influx of shows in Australia and America, transporting them back and forth across the globe for lively fans, thirsty for a taste of their impressive live show. Now erupting into the American music scene, there is no doubt the Aussie boys have more good things coming their way.

You can view Tame Impala’s Jimmy Fallon performance of ‘Elephant’ below, as well as the band’s Tone Deaf presented Australian tour dates, and their extensive American tour schedule.
