As you probably know by now, July’s three-day Splendour in the Grass festival is almost completely sold out, with only a handful of the exclusive Gold Class VIP tix still available through the Moshtix-curated resale program. But Virgin Mobile is now announcing a number of new and extended activations and customer benefits that will ensure a similarly VIP treatment for its customer base.

Following their successful sponsorship of the music festival last year, and now in its third year of sponsorship, 2012 will see Virgin Mobile extending its activations beyond the typical boundaries of the festival grounds. Namely, the Star Treatment Shop, a refreshment station located en-route from Sydney to the Belongil Fields site in Byron Bay; offering a rest0stop for drivers and travellers with free snacks and coffee, as well as a ‘chill-out zone’ to refresh with comfy beanbags and a DJ soundtrack.

Virgin Mobile are also offering fans the chance to win the ultimate experience to Splendour, which this year sold out in a record 43 minutes, thanks to a promotion on its Facebook page that offers five flights, airport fares and free accommodation to and from the festival. The competition, which received over 500 entries on its first day, is also offering a personal butler – valued at $10,000 – to service winners throughout the festival.

Your own personal Jeeves to fetch you hangover cures, lift you on his shoulders during that climactic sing-a-long or simply pitch your tent for you? What’s not to like?

Amber Horris, Virgin Mobile’s ‘Head of Conversation’, said “Virgin Mobile’s festival sponsorship has always been about enhancing the experience for customers and other music lovers.” Speaking of the aforementioned refreshment station, Horris said “with the festival back in Byron Bay, the road trip is part of the Splendour in the Grass experience so we have extended our activity to add some Virgin Mobile charm to the journey.”

Virgin’s 2012 partnership with Splendour also means they will be working collaboratively on the festival’s official mobile app, offering all the requisite notifications, and festival-going information and offers.

Virgin Mobile customers will also be able to register for unique wristbands that will run throughout the festival offering daily prizes, “customer benefits and will post alerts to their social media channels to make their friends at home green with envy.” Called ‘Near Field Communication technology, the wristbands can also be registered through Virgin’s Facebook site, and will also allow access to extra VIP benefits on-site. Including refresh stations called Posh Pits, an express bar queue (The Fast Lane) and the obligatory Recharge Station to keep phone batteries juiced up throughout.

For those (many people) missing out on attending Splendour, Virgin’s partnership will also mean exclusive live streaming of the sets from the likes of Bloc Party, At The Drive-In and Lana Del Rey. In 2011, a record audience viewed Virgin Mobile’s live-stream of Splendour acts including Coldplay, Kaiser Chiefs and Elbow to over 280,000 homes across Australia.
