From Falls Festival’s heaving New Years’ bill to Aunty Meredith’s characteristically eclectic selection of delights, most of the major names for the festivals at year’s close havehave been locked in, meaning many are already looking to 2013 for their festival fix.

Call us greedy, but we’re already looking to the Summer season of music festivals, from Big Day Out in January then Soundwave Festival the following month. There’s one particular player who have yet to show their hand, now some leaked tour information from one particular indie supergroup has forced their hand.

The event in question is Laneway, the indie fan’s festival du jour, which is traditionally held annually in February and been growing exponentially -nationwide – ever since its inception in 2004.

Organisers are still a way off from confirming anything close to acts, but they’re no doubt working on it; particularly given the news from FasterLouder that Divine Fits – the new supergroup from members of Spoon, Wolf Parade and New Bomb Turks have let slip that they’ll be touring down under in January next year.

Spearheaded by Dan Boeckner, formerly of Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs, and featuring Spoon frontman Britt Daniel and New Bomb Turks drummer Sam Brown and keys player Alex Fischel; Divine Fits confirmed in an interview with the website that the newly-minted group would be heading to our shores as part of promoting their newly-released debut, A Thing Called Divine Fits.

“We will be coming to Australia in January [2013]” Boeckner told FasterLouderadding humorously “unlike Wolf Parade we won’t be cancelling it,” remarking on Boeckner’s band splitting up before they could commit to their 2011 Australian touring plans.

Their January 2013 appearance puts them near the top of the rumour mill for a Laneway appearance, they’re a good fit for the boutique festival’s musical tastes.

Rumours of another act that would be a shoo-in for the bill is Brooklyn bohemian outfit, Yeasayer. Chiefly because they were part of the 2011 lineup as well as confirming an Australian tour – also in January 2013 – in the wake of releasing their third album, Fragrant World.

Last but not least is Canadian rock duo Japandroids, who are enjoying some critical praise for their excellent sophomore release, Celebration Rock (you can read the Tone Deaf verdict here).

They’re also hotly-tipped for a Laneway 2013 appearance after guitarist and lead “brocalist” Brian King told music blog Polaroids of Androids: “From what I understand we’re coming in February. Don’t quote me on that quite yet.” Sorry Brian.

“It’s been a long, long time over due,” he continued, “for a number of reasons we couldn’t make it there on the first record touring, but we’re not making that mistake again. So, February it is.” Seems like a safe bet to us.

As always with festival rumour mills though, time will tell all.
