Following on from the awesome announcement that Spiderbait and Something For Kate will be double headlining the Espy on Monday 31 December, a second round of bands have been added to the bill.
Gold Fields hit the ground running when “Treehouse” was plucked off Triple J Unearthed and instantly added to high rotation. Their accompanying live shows quickly gained them a word-of-mouth reputation for being a high-energy combo of pounding drums, rhythmic basslines and herky-jerky dancing. Within only a couple of months of forming, the band raced off to the UK to do showcase gigs with The Naked & Famous and others, as well as securing a release of “Treehouse” on tastemaker London label Young & Lost Club. The Ballarat boys Gold Fields released their debut EP earlier this month. Delivering on the thrilling promise the quintet have shown since they seemingly burst out of nowhere in late 2010, the 4 Track EP is a taut set of frantic dance-pop ‘n’ anthemic jams and includes a remix of their breakout single “Treehouse” and follow-up smash “The Woods”.
Brisbane duo Dune Rats are on a mission. The dynamic duo pairing of Danny Beus and BC Michaels is set to impressing fans and critics alike with their catchy mix of garage surf pop. Beus, arguably one of Brisbane’s most outlandish and entertaining front men, complimented by Michaels’ serious drumming skills and knowledge of the secret art of fun-time will have audiences slipping into the care free party vibe this duo has to offer. Joining forces in late 2010 for an impromptu jam after “several nights of talking shit”, it didn’t take them long to realise the music they were creating was more than just the sound of two kids in a garage annoying neighbours. In their short time on planet Earth, Dune Rats have torn stages apart supporting and touring with like-minded home grown protagonists The Vines, DZ DEATHRAYS, John Steel Singers, Bleeding Knees Club, Belles Will Ring and The Fearless Vampire Killers.
Hunting Grounds used to be called Howl. These six rambunctious high-school buddies hailing from Ballarat took out the crown in the 2009 triple j Unearthed High competition. The rest has been history, with the band tucking two EP’s and a series of high profile tours under their belts in just over eighteen months. Best of all, this is the beginning. With their debut album ‘In Hindsight’ out now and an unquenchable desire to perform live, there’s no telling where this is all going. Suffice it to say it will be somewhere just as loud and unpredictable as Hunting Grounds themselves.
As if that wasn’t enough, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs, Regular John, and Kingswood have all been added to the lineup, with even more to be added soon!
