While summer and the burgeoning season of music festivals is well and truly in full swing, many more music events are already gearing up for their 2013 showings. Including Bluesfest’s most recent additions to their mammoth lineup last week for their bursting Easter weekend bill. Not to be outdone, Queensland residents have now been gifted with their own Easter present.

Hosted at the iconic tourist attraction of the same name, the Big Pineapple Music Festival will see some of Australia’s finest rock bands flocking to the Sunshine State on April 20th 2013 for a brand new music festival that features a large list of local talent across four stages, with food stalls, markets, and the usual festivities for the reportedly fetching ticket price of $65.

Onsite camping will also be available near the Big Pineapple complex, located an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, currently home to the “biggest all weather markets” in the state, boasts the events’ website.

Topping the bill is Grinspoon, whose 2013 touring schedule is already looking pretty healthy in the wake of the release of their latest album, Black Rabbits (which our Tone Deaf reviewer called a “change of direction, but not determination”) which includes their own national headline tour and an appearance on next year’s Big Day Out.

Joining Grinners at the top of the bill is Perth rock ensemble Birds of Tokyo, who were also recently announced to top another festival further south in Tasmania’s Breath of Life Festival for 2013, following the release of their new EP This Fire.

Festival regulars Regurtgitator and British India are also appearing at the Big Pineapple Music Festival, alongside the likes of New Zealand favourites The Black Seeds, funk hop luminaries Hermitude, blues n roots troubadour Ash Grunwald, the hard-touring Kingswood, maverick hip hop artist Chance Waters, and a whole pantheon of Australian and New Zealand acts.

It’s the latest in a string of new music festival announcements that have sprung up lately, including big names like Santana and Steve Miller Band headed to Deniliquin in NSW for the brand new Deni Blues & Roots Festival next March, along with reports of community organisers in Warrnambool seeking  consultation from a former organiser of the Tamworth Country Music Festival to help them put together a new annual music festival; while Geelong Mayor Keith Fagg is seeking support in eyeing a similar annual event in their seaside city.

The Big Pineapple Music Festival will begin an exclusive ticket pre-sale tomorrow, Tuesday 4th December from noon, while an ‘early bird’ sale starts from Thursday 6th Decemeber. Full details available at: bigpineapplemusicfestival.com
