After just finishing up their stint as curators of ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror festival in Melbourne, The Drones will be hitting the road.
This April, The Drones are heading out in the I See Seaweed Tour, playing some of the most iconic venues they’ve set foot in to date, including a night that’s likely to become one of those legendary shows people talk about for years afterwards, at the Sydney Opera House.
Known for their brutally beautiful and uncompromising live shows (don’t believe us? Check out our snaps of their set at ATP), the I See Seaweed national tour will see The Drones back on the live touring circuit for the first time in two years in support of their latest studio album of the same name.
Back in January, we announced that the foursome were dropping an album and planning a tour. I See Seaweed marks The Drones’ first new release since their 2011 live compilation A Thousand Mistakes, and the return of Gareth Liddiard and partner/bassist Fiona Kitschen from their time spent touring and recording with Spencer P Jones and The Nothing Butts, a supergroup featuring the Beasts of Bourbon ringleader and original Scientist/Hoodoo Guru James Baker.
They will be joined by Melbourne collective King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, who just recently dropped their much anticipated “psychedelic western audiobook”, Eyes Like The Sky. Our Tone Deaf reviewer proclaimed that the band have “produced an awesome, eclectic record… [setting] the precedent for easily following their own musical path and creating far more exciting prospects in the future.”
