Following the news that Dave Grohl is bringing his supergroup Sound City Players to Australia as part of a global trek, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has let slip that it could be a lot sooner than we all think.

In the country touring with Stone Sour for Soundwave, Sound City Players member Taylor – who features on ‘From Can to Can’t’ on the film’s all-star soundtrack – has all but confirmed that the upcoming shows will be while he is still Down Under.

According to Music Feeds, Taylor responded to questions about whether he would be joining the supergroup for their Australian shows saying, “I don’t know to be honest, I’ve got so much going on. Though I think they’re doing a show in Perth the same day that the Soundwave Festival is going on… So maybe you’ll see me there.”

It was only a couple of weeks ago that the busy man-about-town Grohl confirmed his plans to take the Sound City Players on the road. He revealed “we’re doing an LA show, we’re doing a New York show, we’re doing a London show, we’re doing a Berlin show, we’re doing a Sydney show, we want to do South By Southwest with all these musicians.”

It would be a mighty effort for the supergroup to pull off – with Perth’s Soundwave going ahead this coming Monday 4th March. That would mean not only flying out all of Sound City Players’ legendary musicians to Australia but also selling tickets in a number of days; to a show in a city that isn’t renowned for its live music scene (as the many pissed off Tool fans will tell you).

It’s one thing for Grohl’s superstar lineup to pull off a last-minute show in LA where many of the members are based, but a whole different story when it comes to bringing it to the other side of the world.

Grohl himself has only confirmed plans to play a show in Sydney, and so it’s advised to take the news of a show in Perth in just a few days time with a grain of salt.

The Foo Fighters frontman, currently on hiatus from that project, has been keeping busy of late. The all-star Sound City Players was first put together to promote his directorial debut Sound City: Real To Reel. The rockumentary and accompanying soundtrack feature major musicians who have a history with the iconic studio.

The list of superstar musicians pitching in for the Sound City Players is endless. Namely featuring Grohl, alongside Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mack), John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Rick ‘Jessie’s Girl’ Springfield, Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Brad Wilk (Rage Against The Machine), Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age), Chris Goss (producer), Lee Ving (Fear), Jessy Greene (Geraldine Fibbers), and the Wallflowers’ Rami Jafee.

On top of that, Sound City Players also features Grohl’s Nirvana/Foo Fighters bandmates Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, and Chris Shiflett.

The Sound City Players made their live debut at the Sundance Film festival in January, followed by an epic two-and-a-half hour set at Hollywood’s Palladium a few days later.

Punters hoping to get along for the all-star group’s Australian gigs can expect similarly lengthy shows, with around 50 songs rehearsed for their upcoming global tour. Speaking to the NerdistGrohl says, “You should go out there and look at the chart of songs we have to fucking learn. It’s insane. I have to learn 50 songs in the next 10 days.”

With a schedule that includes playing drums on the new Queens of the Stone Age album, a keynote address at the forthcoming SXSW 2013signing worldwide deals , hosting a radio series and beginning work on a new Foo Fighters record, it’s a wonder how Grohl will find the time to make it Down Under at all.

Those wishing to catch the supergroup’s Aussie shows can remain hopeful, with Sound City Players having a reputation for not giving much notice of their upcoming gigs.

You can view footage of the Sound City Players whipping through covers of Rick Springfield’s ‘Jessie’s Girl’, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Fortunate Son’, and Queens of the Stone Age’s ‘Hangin’ Tree’ from their debut show at Park City Live below; while you drool over the potential concert  of the decade.
