The Growl Australian Tour 2013 has been announced, with the band kicking off their Douse The Lamps National Tour this September, capping a huge year of national and international success for the band.
Lifted from the band’s debut album What Would Christ Do??, ‘Douse The Lamps’ is the latest single from the band (released digitally on Friday 16th August through MGM) and the title to inspire their latest national tour. The track features songwriting frontman Cameron Avery’s sensual sexual themes beneath textural beds of hand claps and raw percussion.
It’s just one of many highlights of the band’s first full-length album, which saw them supporting Tame Impala (for whom Avery now plays bass after his side-project partner Nick Allbrook departed the lineup) on their international tour through the US and Canada to rave reviews and an ever-growing fanbase.
Alongside Avery are co-conspirators Clinton Oliver (guitar), James Ireland (keys/ accordion/ samples), Marc Earley (double bass), and twin drummer/percussionists Michael Jelinek and Samuel Kuzich. Together they deliver “bass-heavy undertones and searing chords,” as our Tone Deaf reviewer wrote of their Melbourne headline show earlier in the year. “The performance was a surrealist trip that flowed out of the brim-filled cup of glowing fuzz and delayed vocals.”
Joining The Growl on the East Coast will be kind-of-newcomers Peter Bibby & His Bottles of Confidence. In true WA style the band is made up of various Perth musical alumni including Bibby himself (Fucking Teeth), Nick Albrook (POND) and Cameron Avery & Marc Earley from The Growl.
