By this time next week, the world will know the Future Music Festival 2014 lineup, with festival organisers now confirming the lineup announcement date.
The Future Music Festival 2014 lineup will drop on Tuesday 17th September as part of an industry launch in Sydney hosted by Future Music Festival and their new partners the Mushroom Group, who remark that the lineup is “set to be one of the biggest yet.”
As for who to expect on the “blockbuster” Future Music Festival 2014 lineup announcement next Tuesday, the rumour is already well underway.
British electro rockers Rudimental, who are currently in Australia for a headline tour, will be performing live at next Tuesday’s Future Music Festival industry launch, which puts them in contention for appearing on the 2014 bill – backing up their appearance at Future Music Festival 2013.
On the electronic front, Iranian born producer Dubfire seems like a likely lock after telling a fan he’d be in Australia “March 2014;” if it turns out to be Future, it would mark his third ever appearance on the festival’s bill.
Meanwhile, rumours persist that the million-dollar-earning dubstep favourite Deadmau5 could headline, while the influenced dubstep of Skream, and a hopeful return from those South African purveyors of ‘freeeky’ goodness, Die Antwoord, have also been tossed about. Considering the new partnership forged with Mushroom, don’t be surprised if you see some of the acts associated with the company appearing on the lineup.
Swedish superstar DJ Eric Prydz is the latest to be added to the rumour pile after he teased fans of an image suggesting an Australian tour, as inthemix reports.
On the rock side of things, pickings are slim, but in Future’s recent tradition of bringing over big name British bands – such as Stone Roses earlier this year and New Order in 2012 – Arctic Monkeys could be a good fit.
Following closely after the release of their latest album, AM, frontman Alex Turner confirmed an Australia visit in “the first half” of 2014; while that could very well be just for a headline tour, considering they’ve been courted by other big name festivals, they could crop up on the Future Music Festival 2014 lineup.
Considering the new partnership forged with Mushroom, don’t be surprised if you see some of the acts associated with the company’s many label subsidies appearing on the Future Music Festival 2014 lineup.
For speculation’s sake, that could include anyone from The Rubens and Owl Eyes, to Clubfeet or new(ish) signees City Calm Down, and possible return from The Temper Trap, who featured on this year’s Future lineup along with The Stone Roses, The Prodigy, fun., Steve Aoki, Bloc Party, Dizzee Rascal, Azealia Banks, and more.
In fact, the Mushroom and Future alliance has drawn a lot of attention recently. The new partnership was announced following closely after Tone Deaf’s report on companies tied to Future Entertainment Pty Ltd entering into liquidation, with creditors and suppliers still owed from Future Music Festival 2013 and this year’s Summadayze; the latter New Year’s Day festival now looks to be cancelled as a result of the financial collapse of those companies.
Gudinski has been keen to distance Mushroom’s involvement with any of the liquidated companies, previously noting he’d acquired the intellectual property for Future Entertainment through a third party, with the deal equating to a joint venture as opposed to an acquisition of the company. The new venture is headed by electronic dance pioneer Brett Robinson and Mr Gudinski’s son, Matt, while retaining the services of Future’s Jason Ayoubi as a consultant.
“We’ve got a massive job ahead with the Future Music Festival. We want to make it a much better experience for the people who are going. We’re looking long term,” says Gudinski of the event’s future.
The annual music festival will take place in its usual calendar spot of March next year, preceded by the underage ‘sister event’ Good Life, as the recent dates were officially locked in along with the unveiling of the new partnership between Mushroom and Future.
“The strength of the relationship will become apparent when we announce our 2014 lineup,” said Future Music Festival Director Brett Robinson at the time.
