With just two weeks until its kick-off, Stereosonic 2013 has sold out its Sydney leg.

Australia’s biggest dance music event got even bigger this year as it expanded to two days’ worth of DJs and EDM favourites, meaning an increase of capacity to 65,000 for its opening dates at the Sydney Showgrounds on Saturday 30th November and 1st December .

All 65,000 tickets have been exhausted, as Sydney fans have come out in force for a chance to catch the Stereosonic 2013 lineup, which includes some of the world’s topped rank DJs – such as Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, Nicky Romero, and Calvin Harris, along with an Aussie contingent that features Empire Of The Sun, and more than 300 local acts spread across all five legs.

The news arrives as Stereosonic takes steps to deal with concerns over ticket scalping and frauds that have been circulated on third party sites such as eBay, Gumtree, and Facebook.

The re-selling issues have been a problem for Stereosonic 2013 as far back as July, when enterprising profiteers were attempting to scalp tickets to the two-day dance music event before they even officially were available on sale.

To combat the ticket touts, Stereosonic have reserved “50 tickets per day to the Sydney [leg] on Ticketmaster for a limited time,” to be sold off daily, starting at 9am tomorrow morning (Wednesday 20th November) until Friday 29th November.

“Tickets will be released at 9am (AEDT) each day,” reads a Stereosonic statement. “This initiative has been launched in the hope of dispelling the continual concerns and enquiries about scalping and ticket authenticity on un-authorised third party sites from Stereosonic fans.”

In related news, the American investment company that was looking to buy up Sterosonic owners, Australia’s Totem Onelove Group, as part of a global sweep of dance music promotions and festivals, has since completed their multi-million dollar acquisition.

SFX Entertainment made a move to buy up the parent company of Stereosonic for $75 million in July ahead of the festival’s 2013 edition, part of a proposed $1 billion expenditure by SFX to compete globally as the EDM equivalent of the world’s largest concert promoters, Live Nation.

The final sale was completed at the end of October, as Billboard reports, with SFX finalising their buy-up following floating on the stock exchange to raise funds to complete their buy-out of Totem OneLove as one of 52 dance music festivals around the world under SFX’s control.

Following the Sydney sell-out, Stereosonic organisers note that limited tickets are available for the remaining dates in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth – where the weekend-long expansion has ruffled the feathers of local council.

Perth’s Claremont Council already labelled last year’s Stereosonic patrons as “the worst ever” and have cast further dispersions on the festival-goers of this December’s two day Stereosonic 2013 at the Claremont Showgrounds, saying that attendees would rather squat than have the common sense to seek accommodation around the non-camping event.

“That’s a load of crap,” Claremont councillor Anita Lorenz told local papers, sceptical that festival-goers would bother to book into local hotels and motels for the duration of the festival.“It sounds like it could be a problem,” added Ms Lorenz, “we’ve already got people passing out on lawns and residents’ verandahs.” Ms Lorenz says that both her council constituents and local residents are concerned about ‘what might happen’ overnight.
