The Gum Ball 2014 lineup has expanded with the announcement of the second round of bands for the annual music festival.

The independent boutique music and arts festival is celebrating its 10th Anniversary for its 2014 edition, taking place Friday 11th and Saturday 12th April next year, and has handpicked an eclectic mix of local and international acts to help celebrate their landmark birthday.

Now a second batch of bands have been added to the 10th Birthday guest list, the biggest new name on the Gum Ball 2014 roll-call being the might King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. One of Australia’s hardest working bands, a King Gizzard live show has to be experienced to be believed, and given the timing of the festival, they may even have some new material from their new album (their fourth in two years!) in tow.

Also joining The Gum Ball 2014 lineup is Aussie guitar hero Ed Kuepper, co-founder of seminal punks The Saints, a return performance from Mia Dyson as part of the super trio that is Dyson, Stringer, and Cloher, and Melbourne’s full-spirited classic rock combo, The Hello Morning.

Irish singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey will bulk out the international visitors to the boutique event – joining New Zealand’s Swamp Thing, Adrian Edmonson and the Bad Shepherds from the UK, and Canadian Lindi Ortega.

Rounding out the new additions are local acts Tropical Zombie, The Dennis Boys Band, Zombonimo, The Soorleys and the Gum Ball’s very own supergroup, Dashville Progress Society.

The new bands join the already announced lineup that features Jinja Safari, Ngaiire, Wolf & Cub, and headliners Hoodoo Gurus, making for a broad range of brilliant acts that has become The Gum Ball’s trademark.

The Gum Ball will once again be held at its pristine country home, ‘Dashville’, located in Lower Belford in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. But next year’s Gum Ball will take place slightly earlier on the calendar, the two day event to be held on the first weekend of April (coinciding with the school holidays), in a move that will helpfully better suit families looking for a musical adventure ahead of Easter.

“We’ve been through a lot in this time, a rollercoaster of passion, fatigue, joy and hindsight. In the end though, it’s about the people that come to Gum Ball,” says The Gum Ball’s Matt Johnston about having made it to 10 years in the highly competitive Australian music festival market.

Johnston attributes the unique atmosphere and family-friendly nature of The Gum Ball as the reason it has sustained a growing popularity over the years.

“People have become ‘festival experts’- they go to so many events they begin to realise what they want out of an experience,” Johnston says. “For The Gum Ball, it’s almost like the headline bands take a back seat to the comfort, serenity and supreme laid back vibe.”

Tickets for the Gum Ball 2014 are on sale now, available as full two-day weekend passes or single tickets for the Saturday.
