The Primavera Sound 2014 lineup was announced this morning, featuring three days worth of bands that looks like a fan found a magic lamp and gave it a hefty rub.

The huge list of artists headed to Barcelona from 29th to the 31st of May for the 2014 edition of the festival continues the event’s reputation for providing some of the best curated bills in the world.

The Primavera Sound 2014 headliners include famed Canadian art rock collective Arcade Fire, the Grammys-slighted Nine Inch Nails and Queens Of The Stone Age, Brooklyn royalty The National, indie rock legends Pixies, rap prodigy Kendrick Lamar, and Slowdive – the cult shoegaze outfit reuniting for their festival appearance.

Among the huge roll-call of bands locked in for the Primavera Sound 2014 lineup is a selection of five Aussie artists, continuing the trend of homegrown talents making their mark on international festival bills. In fact, three acts headed already announced for the likes of London’s Field Day, plus America’s Firefly Music Festival and Coachella, will now be adding Spain to their overseas tour itineraries.

The opening date of Primavera Sound 2014 features Arcade Fire, QOTSA, along with the newly reunited Neutral Milk Hotel, UK duo Disclosure, St. Vincent, Metronomy, Chvrches, Warpaint, and direct from the Perth psych-lands, Pond. Among the huge roll-call of bands locked in for the Primavera Sound 2014 lineup is a selection of four Aussie artists.

Members of the Aussie fuzz-rock disciples are already familiar with the festival after Tame Impala played Primavera Sound 2013, but Pond will be hitting the festival audiences with material from their latest effort, Hobo Rocket, and maybe even some tasty new material from their already completed follow-up album, the cheekily titled Man It Feels Like Space Again, which is already in the can.

Continuing the presence of Aussie-spawned psychedelia at Primavera on day two is Jagwar Ma, on an eclectic bill that features Haim, Darkside, Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, SBTRKT, !!!, Jenny Lewis, The War On Drugs, Deafheaven, Kvelertak, and more.

The Sydney dance rock duo have already made big waves in the UK, making celebrity fans out of  Noel Gallagher and Paul ‘The Modfather’ Weller for their AMP-nominated debut LP, Howlin’ (ranked by Tone Deaf readers as the fifth best Aussie album of 2013). As their awesome reworking of Arctic Monkeys and Laneway Festival sideshows demonstrated, Jagwar Ma already have an impressive live presence that Spanish crowds are sure to go crazy for.

Also performing on day two is famed Aussie guitarist Mick Harvey, where the former Bad Seed will be getting his Gallic groove on with a tribute to French icon Serge Gainsbourg.

Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Volcano Choir, Mogwai, Television, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Foals, Blood Orange, Spoon, and Chromeo on Primavera day three is two more Australian artists that will already be fairly familiar to international audiences.

Courtney Barnett is already capitalising on her overseas momentum, and adds Barcelona to a trek that includes appearances at Field DayFirefly, and Canadian industry conference NXNE this year. Best known for her breakout single ‘Avant Gardener’  – the second best Aussie song of the year according to you and one of NME’s fave songs of 2013 – the 25-year-old Melbourne singer-songwriter proves that distinctly Australian music can have international appeal.

Joining Barnett on the final massive date is Cut Copy, the indie electro favourites will be playing Golden Plains in March, giving audiences a taste of their latest album, Free Your Mind, in the festival setting before heading to Primavera to do the same.

The international festival announcements have been flowing pretty thick lately, including a record number of Australian artists hitting SXSW 2014 (“the most Australian artists in the US at any one time in history”) and with more American summer events to be announced, while UK’s big name Leeds, Reading, and Glastonbury Festivals have their lineups waiting in the wings, it won’t be too long before we see more Aussie names cropping up on posters in due time.
