Queens Of The Stone Age have announced an intimate Aussie show that will take place just after their co-headline tour with Nine Inch Nails this March, while a QOTSA side-project also confirm Aussie dates.

Though they were left off the initial tour announcement, Tasmania is now getting their chance to catch the QOTSA ringleader Josh Homme (and his fiery stage rants) after the band hits the the mainland this March.

Following taking the NIN/QOTSA super-show over to New Zealand, Queens Of The Stone Age will jet back to Australia to play an intimate show at Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on Monday 24th March.

The Tasmanian show breaks the six-year long drought between gigs from the world-class rockers – their last being a visit as part of the 2008 V Festival, playing the Hobart City Hall – confirming Josh Homme’s promise to Triple J last year that he “would never miss Tassie for anything.”

Along with the Hobart date, LA rock band Sweethead – the side-project of Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen – have also announced two headline Aussie shows that will take place in Sydney and Melbourne, while QOTSA are in town.

Troy Van Leeuwen, along with his striking musical partner Serrina Sims, will hit the stage directly after the arena shows by QOTSA and NIN, playing Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Thursday 6th March and Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne on Friday 14th March, playing tunes from their soon-to-be-released EP Reverse Exorcism! (hear the title track below).

Along with Sweeethead, members of QOTSA will also be spinning tunes on the decks all night long, making for the ultimate fan-service after-party.

The forthcoming Australian tour from QOTSA is bound to be a highlight, not only for it being the first chance for fans to hear material from Like Clockwork live, but given recent shows, also a chance to see Homme sound off.

The band’s recently concluded North American tour saw the frontman physically ejecting a fan offstage at show in Florida after they rushed onstage for an embrace, then days later verbally attacking Las Vegas band Imagine Dragons in “fuck the Grammys” on-stage spiel, echoing his musical pal (and forthcoming Australian tourmate) Trent Reznor’s own “heartfelt fuck you” to the Grammys for disrespecting the pair’s mega-medley with commercial interruptions.

Discussing the Grammys performance, QOTSA member Dean Fertita says it was “different than I thought it was going to be,” in a recent interview with Tone Deaf.

“We’ve kind of run the full circle of emotions over what it was and what it is, and in the end we’re all really proud of what we did,” Fertita said of the group’s rendition of their single ‘My God Is The Sun’, featuring Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, NIN frontman Trent Reznor, and Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, which was prematurely cut off by the producers during the broadcast.

“Getting the chance to play at The Grammys for a band that feels like we’re crashing the party a little bit, it was cool. It is what it is. We’ve come to a place where we can look at it and it was a really good experience, so we’re glad we did it.”
