Noel Gallagher has hit back at his younger brother, claiming that Liam has only made calls for an Oasis reunion in order to feed his ego.

Ever since Oasis called it quits back in 2009, fans have been hopeful of a reunion. Since the split though, the Gallagher brothers have been busy with their respective projects. While Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds has been going since 2010, Liam has been busy with Beady Eye and a subsequent solo career.

However, occasional mentions of an Oasis reunion have come forward though. While Liam has made grand plans for a reunion gig, he’s explained on a number of occasions that he’s made up with Noel, and is eager for the band to get back together.

However, if a new interview with Noel Gallagher is to be believed, Liam only uses talk of a reunion to serve his own ego.

Speaking to Mojo (via NME), the elder Gallagher brother says that Liam’s call for a reunion are insincere.

“Liam wants to do it for his ego – he never gave a shit about the fans,” Noel explained. “He wouldn’t have walked off stage 25 times in his career if he gave a shit about the fans.”

While Noel Gallagher recently explained he’d discovered a long-lost solo album in his sock drawer, Robbie Williams said that the brothers’ fledgling solo careers will necessitate an Oasis reunion in the near future.

“Liam Gallagher has just come back and he’s done pretty well,” said Williams to The Sun. “He had a platinum record with his solo album and I think that’s what everybody was waiting for. I think the next time he releases an album it won’t do as well.”

“Noel’s album didn’t do too good either. I think it sold like 70,000 copies or something, which for Noel isn’t great.”

“If they’re anything like me, which I think they are, they will want to be doing the most successful thing they can do, and the most successful thing they can do is a reunion. I think they’ll both need to do it.”

Liam Gallagher is yet to respond to his brother’s comments.
