Noel Gallagher has revealed he would love to serve as the guitarist in a band once more, expressing his desire to play for a reunited version of The Smiths.

When Oasis broke up back in 2009, the music world was stunned to say the least. While the Gallagher brothers had been notorious for their strained relationship, few people thought they would ever actually split.

In the years since, vocalist Liam Gallagher performed with Beady Eye and as a solo artist, while Noel Gallagher stepped out into the role of a frontman, forming the High Flying Birds.

Since then, both artists have been doing exceptionally well for themselves, though Noel has revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 that he’s love to step back into the role of a band’s guitarist once again, and claiming that a reunited version of The Smiths would be right up his alley.

“I would love to just be in a band; be a guitarist for a while,” Noel revealed.

“Not that band [Oasis], but sometimes when I sit in with [Paul] Weller or something, and I’m just playing guitar, I just think ‘thank god for that’.”

As the conversation continued, Zane Lowe asked Noel Gallagher which band he would “jump at” the opportunity to join, with the former Oasis rocker citing The Smiths as his dream choice.

“I would love, and it’s never going to happen, it’s a thing that in a parallel universe, if The Smiths got back together,” he explained. “I’m Craig Gannon and I’d go to Johnny [Marr] and say don’t get another guitarist mate – I’m your man.”

Having featured Morrissey, Johnny Barr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce throughout their five-year tenure, The Smiths also featured additional guitarist Craig Gannon in 1986 before they broke up the following year.

While it seems as though a reunion from The Smiths is out of the question according to its members, Noel explained earlier this year that he would love to see them get back together at some point.

“I’m not into reunions and all that,” he explained in an interview with Radio X. “But if there was one… If I was God for a day… If you could make it happen and they’d all be happy about it happening, I would love to see The Smiths again.”

Noel Gallagher’s distaste for reunions was proven earlier this week, when the rocker opened up about the fact that Oasis are unlikely to reform as long as brother Liam continues to run his mouth on social media.

“He’d put his whole life on hold to get Oasis back together,” the rocker recently explained. “But every tweet he sends out, it’s another nail in the coffin of that idea.

“If you think for one minute I am going to share a stage with you after what you’ve said you are fucking more of a moron than you look.”
