As reported earlier this week, the death of Charles Haddon, singer of London based synth band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool has taken a further tragic twist. He leapt to his death from a telecommunications tower next to the backstage are of the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium, shortly after coming off stage.

Reports in Belgian newspapers are linking the suicide to an incident where a fan in the crowd was seriously injured after Haddon suddenly dived into the audience during the band’s performance. The stunt went wrong, seriously injuring a young girl, with Haddon reportedly saying “I hope she pulls through. I hope she will be able to walk.”

Following a furious argument with his band members backstage, his body was later found in the carpark below the mast. The victim of the crowd dive is in hospital with serious injuries to one leg and four vertebrae but doctors hope she will make a full recovery. A statement released by the surviving band members read “We are all so deeply saddened to confirm that our friend Charlie Haddon passed away yesterday, Friday 20 August.

“The singer had just performed with his band, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. He was 22 years old.

“Charles Alexander Haddon R.I.P Thanks for all your messages of support. x.”
