Sharon Osbourne has opened up about the absence of husband Ozzy Osbourne during a recent Grammy ceremony that honoured Black Sabbath, noting she wouldn’t let him go due to a “shocking” snub.

Late last year, it was revealed that heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath were set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys.

A worthy recognition, the band were set to be given the honour alongside the likes of George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick.

However, some folks might have thought something was a bit strange considering that the Grammy Awards were held in February, while the Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony didn’t take place until May.

As it turns out, it was this discrepancy in the dates that resulted in Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne being absent from the ceremony.

Speaking to Celebrity Access recently, Sharon Osbourne explained that she “wouldn’t let Ozzy go” to the ceremony because of the disrespectful way she felt the awards were being handed out.

“I was just so pissed off at the Grammys this year because they gave them a Lifetime Achievement Award, but wouldn’t give it to them on the TV show that we all know as The Grammy Awards,” Osbourne began.

“They did it at a separate ceremony which goes out on another network later on. I wouldn’t let Ozzy go because I just thought it was shocking what they did to them. So I wouldn’t let Ozzy go.”

After the interviewer noted that Black Sabbath were one of the most influential groups in rock and heavy metal history, Sharon Osbourne noted that this was one of the reasons she was so “angry” at the lack of proper recognition for the group.

“They wanted to give it to them in some pissy fucking ceremony that they had,” she added. “Listen, there were artists there that got awards that deserved it too.

“But I just thought because Sabbath– their career spanned 50 years and they are still selling records today – their catalog still sells and their last record that was out 6 years ago was #1 in many countries worldwide – so the other artists they were honoring had great careers and deserved to be honored but they still didn’t have the careers that Sabbath had.

“So not to put them on the proper show, it was like, ‘How dare you?’ I was so angry. I just thought, ‘Fuck you. I am not going to give you the honor of having Ozzy at your shitty ceremony.'”

In related news, Ozzy Osbourne recently noted that he’d like to see one final gig with Black Sabbath including founding drummer Bill Ward.

While fans thought this news was rather enticing, Ward himself threw his hat in the ring recently, stating that he was “very open-minded” about performing with the band in the future.

Although it remains to be seen whether such a performance will take place, it appears as though anything could happen in the future, and fans will happily take anything that the band offer up.
