Paul Dempsey is set to road test some of his band’s new material, giving fans a sneak peek at forthcoming Something For Kate tracks with a run of intimate hometown shows.
It’s been six years and seven months since Something For Kate released their last record, and ever since, dedicated fans have been hanging out for another stunning album.
Of course, the band haven’t been lazy during the interim, celebrating their 20th anniversary, reissuing their catalogue on vinyl, and touring constantly.
However, for a while now, the band have also been teasing the forthcoming release of some long-awaited material.
While fans at some of Paul Dempsey’s recent solo shows would have received a preview of these new tracks, it seems as though we’re getting closer than ever to the new record, with Dempsey today announcing some solo shows in which he’ll road test Something For Kate’s new material.
Taking place in just over a month, Paul Dempsey’s three-night residence at Collingwood’s Gasometer Hotel is something of a throwback to Something For Kate’s old warm-up shows in which they too would give their audiences a preview of the new stuff.
However, while Something For Kate used to adopt secret monikers for these shows (‘George Kaplan & The Editors’ and ‘Jerry & The Manmade Sharks’ come to mind), Paul Dempsey will going to be going by his birth name for these shows, making it much less confusing for prospective ticket-buyers.
To make things even more exciting though, these shows will feature something of a “loose” setlist, allowing Dempsey to play old and new favourites, covers, and even field a few requests during the evening.
So if you’re eager to hear some sneak previews of Something For Kate’s new album, delivered by the group’s far-too talented frontman in an intimate venue, then be sure to secure your tickets when they go on sale this Thursday.
