Swedish songsters Peter, Bjorn & John have announced details of a new album which is set to be released early next year. They’re promising a return to a ‘pure pop rock’ sound after the experimental nature of their last two albums, both of which they admit were a reaction to the sudden rise to fame the band incurred with the irritatingly catchy whistling song ‘Young Folks’ from their 2006 album Writer’s Block.

According to drummer John Eriksson, “We originally planned to make a punk rock album, but listening to it now it’s definitely a pop rock album. But it sounds more punk rock when we play the songs live!” He also admits that the band used the age old method of getting plastered to find inspiration for the album. “We were more drunk this time,” says Eriksson, trying to recall the boozy sessions. “We have to blame the producer for that. He made us drink more. A lot of the final cuts were the drunken versions.” One song, called “Tomorrow Has to Wait,” is “about getting drunk because that’s what we were during recording.”
