Peter Dutton might be one of the most prominent names in Australian politics right now, but amongst music fans, he’s being seen as something of an outside after failing to name a single AC/DC song in a recent interview.

You might recall how a few months ago, Malcolm Turnbull turned himself into the national musical laughing stock after it was revealed he couldn’t name any tracks by AC/DC, only to follow it up months later with the revelation that he didn’t know the words to John Farnham’s ‘You’re The Voice’. (If you’re wondering, yes, his musical credibility apparently had further to sink after his regrettable attempt at rapping last year.)

Well, now it seems that the tables have turned, with Peter Dutton throwing his hat into the ring to vie for the title of ‘most musically-ignorant politician’.

Speaking to Triple M this morning after his ill-fated leadership spill yesterday, Peter Dutton was asked by Will Anderson to name his favourite AC/DC song.

“Mate, this is one where it catches you out. I’ve had about an hour-and-a-half sleep last night,” he said. “I’m trying to catch up with you Will, but I haven’t mate, I’m sorry.”

“You’ve got the gotcha of the day.”

Will Anderson also poked fun at Dutton’s inability to name a song after the interview, explaining he was a bit anxious about potentially having a head of state who can’t name a single track by one of the greatest bands from the country.

“I am worried about the fact that we might have two Prime Ministers in a row who can’t name an AC/DC song though,” Anderson explained. “He handled it a bit better, but it still worries me a little that he can’t name one.”

Here’s hoping that it becomes a compulsory requirement for all Australian politicians to pass a musical test in the future.
