Corpse paint is a one-part artistic, one-part gimmick when it comes to the world of metal; you’re either a really serious black metal act with a big following, or you’re taking a niche a bit too far.

Turns out that Ghost frontman Tobias Forge never really cared what people thought of him when he was younger, with a photo emerging of him as a youngster, thanks to fan-page School of Ghoul, donning a very Immortal look with his own corpse paint. Check it out below.

Before Ghost, Forge was in bands with the decidedly sinister names Repugnant, Magna Carta Cartel and Superior, with this photo captured of him in the latter group back in the ’90s.

It seems that Forge chose to take a decidedly poppier turn after his cvlt days. After all, how else could he have convinced Dave Grohl to (allegedly) come on board?

The frontman apparently has over 50 ideas for new Ghost music in the works, so who knows – maybe we’ll see a return of the classic corpse paint look?
