The Pixies have once again been forced to expand their mammoth Aussie tour.

Following the announcement of a second performance at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, and a second show at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, alt-rock pioneers the Pixies have announced a new Sydney show/

Due to overwhelming demand, the Pixies will now play a second show at the iconic Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Sunday, March 15.

The first Sydney show on March 14 is now sold out and pre-sale tickets for the second show will be available to Sydney Opera members from 9am August 27 and My Live Nation members from 10am August 28. General on sale is Friday, August 30 at 11am.

The announcement follows on from recent sellouts in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane, who will catch the band performing their two seminal releases 1987’s EP Come On Pilgrim and 1988’s debut full-length album, Surfer Rosa in full.

Audiences be treated to stellar live renditions of early Pixies classics such as ‘Bone Machine,’ ‘Gigantic,’ ‘Vamos’ and ‘Where Is My Mind?’, all produced on record by the great Steve Albini.

The Pixies will also offer up some old tracks not recorded on the aforementioned releases, as well as new tracks from upcoming eighth LP Beneath The Eyrie.

Pixies’ sheer influence and contribution to music simply can’t be denied. Prior to the monolithic rise of grunge out of Seattle, the group were making music and conducting themselves unlike any other. Soft, melodic verses were bookended by brash alt-punk leanings, which inspired some of the biggest bands in history.

In a 1993 interview with Rolling Stone, Kurt Cobain said ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ was his attempt at “trying to rip off the Pixies.”

“I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies,” he said. “I have to admit it [smiles]. When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected with that band so heavily I should have been in that band — or at least in a Pixies cover band. We used their sense of dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard.”

It’s any wonder tickets to Pixies Australian tour are selling so fast…
