If you’re in the mood for hazy vibes and summery anthems, then Volcano God Head Explodes, the latest EP from Ben Wright Smith is just what you need.

If you’ve had your finger on the pulse of the Aussie music scene in recent years, then the name Ben Wright Smith will be one you’re already familiar with. Having released a number of songs over the years, the last couple have seen Wright Smith focus on his Psychotropical EP trilogy.

Releasing Psychotropical back in 2018, fans have had to wait a while to receive a follow-up, but after sharing lead single ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ earlier this month, it became apparent the wait was more than worth it.

While the single was recorded with an all star cast of friends (including musicians who have performed with Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird, Ali Barter, The Terrifying Lows, Redcoats, Stonefield, Gretta Ray, Gotye, and Archie Roach), ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ served as a powerful taster of what was set to come.

“I guess I was thinking of some times when I wish I said or did something, but decided that it could wait until tomorrow,” Wright Smith said of the single. “The problem was that tomorrow always becomes today, so it’s easy to put things off forever if you live like that.”

Now, with Volcano God Head Explodes set to drop on April 3rd, fans have the chance to give it a listen a few days early. Recorded in Melbourne’s Sound Park and The Aviary with David Turner (Amy Shark, Dan Sultan), tracks like ‘The Wire’ show a masterful mix of slick musicianship and catchy compositions, while ‘Sleeping’s For Dreamers’ show just why Ben Wright Smith is an artist you need to name as one of your favourites immediately.

“These particular songs weren’t really written to be a part of a narrative but they emerged from a bit of a chaotic time,” Wright Smith explains.

“It made sense to name the EP after the final track, ‘Volcano God Head Explodes’. It’s kinda like the moment where things have been building up for so long and when everything falls to shit you’re actually kinda relieved because it means you can start again.”

Volcano God Head Explodes is officially out on Friday, but be sure to give it an early spin below!
