Melbourne’s Howlite have just dropped ‘Reducer’, the stellar first single from their upcoming EP, Not Here.

If you’ve had your finger on the pulse of the Aussie music scene, then you would likely have been lucky enough to discover the music of Howlite.

Forming in Melbourne and quickly releasing a string of dreamy, folk-influenced tracks, the group quickly made a name for themselves as one of the artists to watch on the local scene.

Now, Howlite are gearing up to release their new EP in 2020, and they’ve just dropped the first single to celebrate.

Titled ‘Reducer’, the tune is something of a new chapter for the band, and sees them swapping their folk-oriented roots for some more electronic instrumentation, with samples, throbbing bass, and loops backing the gorgeous vocals of Alison Thom.

“‘Reducer’ has a noticeable pop edge to it, which was a decisive choice,” Howlite explained of the new track. “We wanted to strip away the layers, and really focus on the things that we felt defined our soundscape.”

Produced by Tyson Fish (Vance Joy, Justice, Bad//Dreems), ‘Reducer’ sees Howlite taking on a sound closer to that of The xx and London Grammar than anything else, and is a sign of the many good things to come for this exceptional group of musicians.

With their Not Here EP scheduled to be released next year, Howlite have announced a Melbourne single launch for ‘Reducer’ ahead of its official release on August 16th.

With more live shows set to arrive throughout the year, the band’s upcoming performances will show fans why they’re one of the most engaging and immersive live acts on the scene today.

“Our live show is something we’ve been building on over the last few months,” the group explain.

“Playing alongside some great bands such as San Mei and Deep Sea Arcade really inspires you to develop not only a great sounding live set, but something that is immersive and engaging for the audience. And that’s our focus for this single launch.”
