Breathe In
I came up with the concept for this years back, and have been performing it live for a while. Decided to finally tweak it with the IED. Nrt used to bring music ideas in every week to show us, we both write a lot of beats, so always have an excess of beats and are exceptionally picky. He played a track one day which was one of his usual steez productions with strings, guitar, obscure sounds manipulated, weird samples, but he also had a bass clarinet in there which I loved, I grabbed the 2 bar clarinet line a 1 bar drum beat and got tweaking and producing. Diego then weaved his axe on it, which was the icing.
Same Shit
One of my favorite tracks on the EP, had lot’s of fun with this one in the studio.
I enjoy rapping in double time and ran the vocals through the UAD LA-2A plug in, gave it a nice warmth. Diego played some awesome reverse guitar on the outro, which inspired me to re-write some parts over it.
Comply
This was a track I wrote for the full band. I used to perform the intro with a Boom box on my shoulder with a tape playing the intro beat, and then it would come in crazy hyped with the full band and the mpc. After I recorded this I got pretty vibed and wrote a new verse and chorus for the music. Been playing with Neil and Maz for a long time, my favorite Rhythm section ever! Used the stutter filter on my trumpet in the outro to give it the best wah sound!
Rhythms
I’m a huge fan of alternate versions of songs. This is just one of many versions of Rhythms I have done. Trading with Diego at the end is always fun live, good to build together; sometimes live there is some friendly competition.
Cloaked Guerilla
I originally wrote the opening line for this in traffic one day. I have a lot of problems with Australian history and the image that is presented and promoted in the mainstream. There were the worst crimes imaginable committed against the Original Australians and as a result there were heaps off rad warriors who rose up and fucked up the invaders. This was the first single I released of Subversive and made it to No.1 on the triple J overall charts and Hip Hop charts for consecutive weeks.
