Aussie rock legends The Scientists have returned with a brand new song, with the hypnotic ‘Dissonance’ being shared today ahead of its official release later this week.

No matter how you slice it, 2019 is turning into one incredibly busy year for the great Kim Salmon. Having recently announced a bunch of tour dates for early next year, he’s also set to hit the road as part of The Beasts later this month.

But it doesn’t end there though. He’s set to be holding an art exhibition in a few weeks, while The Surrealists will make their return as part of the launch for his biographyNine Parts Water One Part Sand, which releases later this week.

Oh, and on top of all that, this week also sees the release of a new split single from Salmon, including his track ‘The Poison Pen’, and ‘Dissonance’, from his iconic outfit The Scientists.

Ever since they rose to fame over 40 years ago, The Scientists have been one of those groups that music historians have been unable to stop raving about.

Famed for classic records like Blood Red River, big names like Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer, Mudhoney, and the White Stripes have all sung their praises as a vital influence.

While the band initially broke up in 1987, a 2007 reformation saw the band hit the live stage once again, though music wasn’t exactly forthcoming. Following the release of their ‘Mini Mini Mini’/’Perpetual Motion’ single in 2017 though, fans have been forever relishing the idea of new music from the outfit.

Now, ‘Dissonance’ is here to once again scratch that undying itch, with its dirty, swirling, and hypnotic sound fronted by an almost stream-of-consciousness vocal that keep you hooked all the way from start to finish.

An absolutely brutal return to form for the outfit, ‘Dissonance’ is fronted on the A-side by Salmon’s equally-powerful ‘The Poison Pen’, and is likely to go down as one of the best split singles you’ve heard for a very long time.

While The Scientists’ music has been seeing a bit of a resurgence over the last few years thanks to some reissues from the Numero Group, it appears as though the good times are only just beginning to roll.

With the band already set to be inducted into the WAM Hall Of Fame in Perth, they’re also gearing up to hit the studio to record a brand new album. Watch this space, because there’s bound to be an endless supply of high-energy action on offer.

The new split single between Kim Salmon and The Scientists is officially out on Friday, November 8th, the same day as Salmon’s exceptional new biography. Check out all of Salmon’s touring plans below, and be sure to check out ‘Dissonance’ ahead of its release later this week.
