Ahead of next week’s Piano & A Microphone 1983 release, The Prince Estate and Warner Bros. Records have dropped a previously unreleased track from the album. Listen to “Why The Butterflies” below.
Listen: Prince – “Why The Butterflies”
The track is the latest to be released from the upcoming album, and the first of three Prince tracks we’ve never heard before that will feature on the album. The album is the first release of unheard material from the artist since the Deliverance EP released last year to mark the anniversary of his death. The EP was quickly taken down from streaming services due to a lawsuit.
Since his death in 2016, The Prince Estate has been preparing several releases of the artist’s unreleased work. There are also plans to release his memoir “The Beautiful One” later this year.
This September 21st, the timeless Prince back catalogue welcomes a new, special addition – Piano & A Microphone 1983: 9 tracks and 35 minutes of Prince – solo with just a piano and a microphone. More: https://t.co/cypEBCWjz5 pic.twitter.com/sh0oUc0rKq

Earlier this year saw the official release of Prince’s original recording of “Nothing Compares 2 u“. The track originally written by the artist was made famous after Sinead O’Connor covered it in 1990. Netflix are reportedly working a biopic on the late singer, with Bruno Mars rumoured to be in the running to play the iconic artist.
Piano & A Microphone 1983 is out next Friday, and features recordings of “Purple Rain”, as well as two more never before heard tracks including “Cold Coffee & Cocaine”. Check out the video for Prince’s original version of “Nothing Compares 2 U” featuring rehearsal footage of the icon below.
