Queen are set to stream the iconic 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness. The show will be available to watch on the band’s YouTube page for 48 hours kicking off at 4am AEDT. The stream is set to raise funds for coronavirus relief.
The band are asking viewers to donate funds to the World Health Organization in Mercury’s honour. Google will match every dollar donated with a $2 donation as part of their ongoing Google/YouTube UN Foundation fundraiser.
The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert initially took place on April 20th, 1992 and London’s Wembley stadium — months after the legendary vocalist past away from AIDS complications. The tribute saw the surviving members of Queen — Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon— enlist the help of a lineup of musical contemporaries to pay honour the late musician. With the help of icons like David Bowie, Robert Plant, Axl Rose, Eltohn John, Tony Iommi, Annie Lennox, Liza Minelli, George Michael, Seal and more, the band made their way through a series of classics.
