Big Day Out 2013 is less than a week away and there’s still a final few details left to sweeten the deal.
The one-day music festival, now has the set times all locked in (including the enforced earlier curfew placed on the Perth leg), and unique features like a Mexican Wrestling bar, the return of the Lilypad, a fully automated robotic band, and unique Australian acts added to the lineup in each capital city.
Now, Sea Shepherd Australia have just announced that it will team up with longtime supporters Red Hot Chili Pepperson the band’s 2013 Big Day Out headline tour which kicks-off in Sydney next Friday, January 18.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famerswill incorporate Sea Shepherd digital visuals into the backdrop of their mainstage performance, in what is the festival’s 21st anniversary year.
As well, Sea Shepherd willhold a merchandise and information stand in the market stall area of theSydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth Big Day Out.
Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Australia is an internationalnon-profit conservation organization whose mission is to end the destruction ofhabitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserveand protect ecosystems and species.
Sea Shepherd Australia uses innovativedirect-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessaryto expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. Sea Shepherd has enjoyed along and strong relationship with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and proudly lists Anthony Kiedis as a member of the SeaShepherd Board of Directors.
In early 2012, the band madea public announcement that called on German authorities to stop the extraditionof Captain Paul Watson to Costa Rica, saying, “The Red Hot Chili Peppers arelongtime supporters of Sea Shepherd, Captain Watson and the wonderful work theydo to save our ocean and protecting marine wildlife globally.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers aren’t the only musicians who support the conservation group. Recently, Pennywise frontman Zoli Téglás publicly attacked the Western Australian government for their ocean dredge plan. Xavier Rudd also spoke of his affiliation with the organisation in an interview with Tone Deaf.
2013 wil be the second consecutive year that Sea Shepherd has had the privilege of hosting amerchandise and information stand at the Big Day Out market stalls. Onshore volunteers will be available at the stand to answer questions andsell with awide range of Sea Shepherd licensed merchandise.
