Get ready for a new punk supergroup to grace your ears, as members of Refused, Bad Religion, S.O.A., and Girls Against Boys have fused together to create Fake Names and they’ve got a new song out.
It’s been a good year for supergroups to form – first we found out that surf icon Steph Gilmore teamed up with Celeste Barber and Spiderbait’s Kram, then members of Jet, Muse, and Blur sported their own supergroup The Jaded Hearts Club.
Now, we’re in for a treat as punk supergroup Fake Names have released their newest single ‘First Everlasting’. Composed of Refused frontman Dennis Lyxzén spitting vocals alongside guitar and vocals of both S.O.A.’s Michael Hampton as well as Bad Religion/Minor Threat icon Brian Baker with Girls Against Boys’ Johnny Temple strumming along.
Consisting of striking guitar rifts, and catchy lyrics ‘First Everlasting’ is noted as being “a more existential song, about taking a look at yourself and accepting the role you’ve played in your own life,” according to vocalist Lyxzén. “It’s about growing up and moving forward, and learning from past mistakes and failures.”
The idea of the punk supergroup came from early 2016, when both “Brian Baker and Michael Hampton met up at Hampton’s Brooklyn home to play music together, with no intentions beyond possibly writing a song or two.”
“Friends since first grade, the two guitarists ended up writing a handful of songs that day, and then closed out the session with a spontaneous decision to start a band.”
“When it came to finding a bassist, Baker and Hampton looked to Johnny Temple, a fellow classmate from their elementary school. Later that year at Chicago’s Riot Fest, both Baker and Temple were struck with the sudden inspiration to recruit Refused frontman Dennis Lyxzén as their singer.”
