Ridin’ Hearts has officially launched its Ridin’ Starts 2025 programme, a nationwide search for Australia’s next country music sensation in partnership with APRA AMCOS.

Following a record-breaking number of entries in 2024, the artist-first initiative returns to connect emerging local talent with industry heavyweights.

The programme is designed to equip aspiring country artists with tools, insights, and connections needed to flourish in one of music’s fastest-growing genres globally.

This year’s prize package is impressive, with the winner securing a 20-minute performance slot on the Lone Spur Stage at Ridin’ Hearts 2025. The victor will also receive one-on-one meetings with industry powerhouses including Michael Chugg (Chugg Entertainment & Chugg Music), artist James Johnston, songwriter Tom Jordan, and Natalie Waller (ABC Music).

Additional prizes include a custom merchandise piece designed with Love Police, a $200 voucher from Ringers Western, professional press photos, a content package documenting their festival experience, and a tour pass to witness some of country music’s biggest acts performing live. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered thanks to APRA AMCOS.

The 2024 inaugural Ridin’ Starts winner was Victorian singer-songwriter Michael Honan, whose distinctive vocal tone and songwriting abilities impressed the judges. His triumph culminated in the release of his single “More Than I Can Tell”.

Reflecting on his experience, Honan said: “Winning the Ridin’ Starts competition was a deeply rewarding experience. It connected me with influential leaders in the Australian music industry and provided invaluable mentoring sessions. These sessions answered my questions, offered guidance on my music career direction, and shared tips on avoiding common industry pitfalls.”

To enter, artists must upload a video performing an original song to Facebook or Instagram, tag @ridinheartsfest, then complete the entry form at ridinhearts.com/ridinstarts.

Entries are now open and close on Friday, August 8th at 5pm AEST. Five finalists will be selected and announced via Ridin’ Hearts and Frontier Touring social media pages, with the ultimate winner determined by an expert panel of judges.

The comprehensive prize package includes industry meetings with prominent figures such as Michael Chugg, James Johnston, Tom Jordan, Natalie Waller, Sony Music Australia representatives, and an experienced entertainment lawyer from Frontier Touring. Winners will also connect with the Ridin’ Hearts publicity and marketing team to learn effective brand-building strategies.

Additional prizes include a $500 merchandise voucher with Love Police, a $200 Ringers Western voucher, a professional content package capturing the festival experience, press shots, and a tour pass providing tickets to two country music concerts promoted by Frontier Touring.
