Rihanna has playfully ripped into a fan for questioning when her much-anticipated new album is coming out.

Over on her Instagram profile, Rihanna uploaded a photo of herself with the caption, “new year’s resolution: apply the pressure.”

It seems one user may have taken the statement quite literally, as they replied with the comment, “resolution should be releasing the album.”

Given that the comment has now amassed over 20,000 likes, it appears Rihanna may have been feeling the heat over the status of the new album.

In response to the fan, she wrote, “this comment is sooo 2019. grow up.”

Later on, she also commented “2021 energy,” alongside laugh-crying and flexed bicep emojis.

Rihanna’s long-rumoured ninth studio album, dubbed R9 by fans, has been the subject of speculation for the last couple of years.

Back in December 2019, Rihanna took to Instagram to upload a clip of a dog dancing to House of Pain’s ‘Jump Around’ with the caption, “me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”

In a February 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna admitted she likes to “antagonise” fans regarding upcoming projects.

“To be continued…” she said in reference to R9.

“I like to antagonise my fans a little bit. Well, they antagonise me, too! So, they get it right back.”

In a later Entertainment Tonight interview back in July, she assured fans they are “not going to be disappointed” when the album is finally released.

“I am always working on music and when I am ready to put it out in the way that I feel fit, it’s gonna come out,” she said.

“You’re not going to be disappointed when it happens. It’s going to be worth it.”
