Led Zeppelin fansites, conspiracy theorists and obsessive chroniclers alike are claiming Led Zeppelin will be reforming — well, as much as a band where a linchpin member died 37 years ago can — in order to play the Desert Trip festival in California.
The rumours started when Robert Plant wiped his website and wrote a note simply saying “Any time now…” Feel Numb then quoted “well placed sources in the industry” as having confirmed that Plant and co. have agreed to the reunion, despite having previously turned down a $14 million dollar offer to perform at the festival. Feel Numb explains there are “millions and millions” more reasons to take the offer now, hinting at a hefty pay day.
Of course, Plant is planning the release of his next album with the Sensational Space Shifters, so he could simply be hyping this. It’s way more likely, considering he told Rolling Stone in 2014 “A tour would have been an absolute menagerie of vested interests and the very essence of everything that’s shitty about about big-time stadium rock. We were surrounded by a circus of people that would have had our souls on the fire. I’m not part of a jukebox!”
The band haven’t reformed under the name Led Zeppelin since drummer John Bonham’s 1980 death, although the three remaining members reunited for Live Aid in 1985, and again in 1988 and 2007.
