Rod Stewart reconnected with his Faces bandmates Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones for a 50th anniversary performance. The three original Faces members performed ‘Stay With Me’ to bring the 2020 BRIT Awards to a close.

Stewart appeared onstage first to play his classic version of Crazy Horse’s ‘I Don’t Want to Talk About It’. He then announced that “[The BRITs] may be 40 years old, but the Faces are 50 years old.” This was the cue for Wood and Jones to come and join him. They performed 1971’s ‘Stay With Me’ with orchestral accompaniment.

Faces formed out of the ashes of the Small Faces in 1969. Stewart and Wood, formerly of the Jeff Beck Band, teamed up with Small Faces members Jones, Ian McLagan and Ronnie Lane and released four studio LPs. Their best-known albums are 1971’s A Nod Is As Good As a Wink… to a Blind Horse and 1973’s Ooh La La.

The latter remains the band’s latest release as they split-up in 1975 once Stewart’s solo career had taken precedence. Stewart, Wood and Jones have played together a couple of times in recent years, including a surprise September 2019 performance for The Prostate Project charity.

Faces previously reunited at the 1993 BRIT Awards, playing ‘Stay With Me’ on that occasion too. Ronnie Wood has been a member of the Rolling Stones since 1975. Stewart, of course, remains a very successful solo artist. He’s bringing his The Hits! Tour to Australia this October.
