In a new interview The Rolling Stones’ legendary guitarist Keith Richards has said that their upcoming 2019 tour could very well be their last. He also spoke about the possibility of new music from the group whose last album was 2016’s Blue And Lonesome.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Richards said of their upcoming 2019 tour “Maybe this will be the last one, I don’t know.” He also went into detail on how the group decides when and where they’re going to tour. “Sometimes it seems to be quite haphazard, how it happens. But in a way there’s an inner clock in the Stones when they feel that they’re timing things right – as a band and for themselves.”

In the interview, Richards also spoke about when we might see a new album from the Stones, explaining he’d spent some time in the studio with Mick Jagger, but it was still in early stages. “Mick and I got together for a few days a month or so ago in the studio, just playing around. Apart from that, there might be a session sometime in December, but I’m not crossing my fingers on that.”

The group’s 2016 album was a set of blues covers, but it looks like their next album will be their first original material since 2005. Don’t expect the record anytime soon however, Richards explained it could be a while “I would say if I’m looking at it, we’re going to do this tour, so maybe this time next year, I would say. Maybe. That looks like a reasonable projection.”

News that this could be the final ever tour from The Rolling Stones might not come as a surprise considering 2019 marks 57 years since the band first formed. Their 2019 leg of the No Filter Tour will see them playing stadiums across America, but if this is their final ever tour, we hope there’ll be some Aussie dates added!
