The Rolling Stones have been forced to postpone their upcoming North American tour, citing an illness that is afflicting Mick Jagger as the reason.

Late last year, The Rolling Stones announced their triumphant return to North America. Their first tour of the continent since 2016, this 17-date run of shows were set to keep the band busy between April and June.

Now, however, these dates have been postponed following an announcement by the band earlier today.

Taking to Twitter this morning, the official accounts for The Rolling Stones, along with accounts of the band’s members, announced the news.

“Mick [Jagger] has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment,” the group wrote. “The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

“I really hate letting you down like this,” Jagger latter added. “I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can.”

While new dates for the band’s shows will be announced at a later date, this news echoes The Rolling Stone’s postponed Australian dates back in 2014.

Originally scheduled to hit up Australia for the first time in eight years in March of 2014, the group’s tour was rescheduled due to the death of Mick Jagger’s life partner, L’Wren Scott.

At this stage, no further details about Jagger’s illness have been made public, though fans are undoubtedly reassured by doctors’ assurance he will make a “complete recovery”.

In related news, The Rolling Stones recently made headlines after it was announced that meet-and-greet packages for their tour are costing fans $35,000.

While some folks were outraged by this ludicrous price, reactions were assuaged by news that money raised from this experience will directly benefit Community Links, a London charity that aims to tackle deprivation and inequality through providing practical support and opportunities to people that need it.

Here’s hoping that Mick Jagger makes a speedy recovery, and is able to hit the road with his trademark gusto in no time!
