If you’re in the mood for a bit of variety on your breakfast radio, then be sure to tune in to triple j all next week, with Ruby Fields taking over hosting duties from Ben & Liam.

If you’ve ever listened to triple j over the last couple of years, you’d undoubtedly know how hard triple j’s South Australian Breakfast hosts Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton have to work. With early schedules, and constant battles with their long-suffering boss, it’s about time they had themselves a bit of a break.

But who would they get in to host the Breakfast slot in their absence? Maybe they could get Veronica and Lewis to set their alarms early? Or maybe they could get Matt and Alex to reunite on air? Or maybe, just maybe, they could bring in one of the best Aussie musos on the scene today?

If you’ve got any indication about where this introduction is heading, you’re probably aware that they’ve chosen the latter.

Taking to Instagram last night, Ruby Fields revealed that she will be taking over Breakfast hosting duties all of next week, ensuring that listeners wake up with her dulcet tones and trademark sense of humour.

“A few people told Ben and Liam they’d like me to take over on triple j for a week while the boys visit Perth’s capital city, Bali,” Ruby explained on social media.

“You can’t do any worse than we already have,” Ben Harvey added in the comments. “Just bring her back in one piece.”

So, why would Ruby Fields get the gig? Well, in addition to not only scoring one of the highest-charting Aussie tracks in the 2018 Hottest 100, and proving herself as one of the finest live musicians around today, she’s also set herself apart as one of the funniest people out there.

After all, who can forget the interview she did with Laneway Festival punters back in February? Armed with her quick wit, sharp tongue, and an uncanny ability to get responses from the crowd, we reckon it won’t be long before Ruby is replacing Andrew Denton as one of Australia’s best interviewers.

Ruby Fields’ stint as a triple j host kicks off from Monday, July 1st, so be sure to tune in from 6am to 9am as one of the best young musicians in Australia helps you get your day off to a flying start.
