Run The Jewels are apparently hard at work on their long-awaited fourth record, revealing they’ve been working with the great Rick Rubin on the forthcoming album.

Late last year, Run The Jewels’ El-P revealed that the group’s new record – ostensibly titled Run The Jewels 4will be released sometime in 2019.

“I know a lot of you are hoping we drop RTJ4 this year so it’s only right I let you know clearly: we are not,” El-P began. “We just got off tour like 5 months ago. I scored a film and got married. We started and are working on it but it’s not even close to done. I tell you because I love you.”

“Oh and at the risk of losing the mystery of it all, RTJ4 will probably hit around summer time. I’m sorry if that schedule disappoints anyone but we need the time to make sure the music doesn’t.”

However, with summer time in the states fast approaching, fans have been wondering when the new record will either drop, or we’ll be provided with new updates.

Now, we’ve received exactly what we’ve been hoping for, with the dynamic duo sharing info about the new release in an email to their fans earlier today.

“It’s been a minute, so we wanted to take a moment to update our favorite people on all things RTJ,” Run The Jewels wrote in their latest missive.

“We’ve been going hard on RTJ4 and have a genuine excitement to share new music with you all,” they wrote. “We stand behind our statement that this record is going to punch you in the fucking face and burn everything in its path.”

“We thank you for your continued patience as we put together what we believe will be our best record yet,” they added, noting that they “recently stopped by another friend’s studio in LA to keep shit moving,” before sharing a picture of Killer Mike and El-P with Rick Rubin.

Of course, while Rick Rubin is known for his work with iconic rock acts such as System Of A Down, Slayer, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, his roots lie within the hip-hop genre, having worked with the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, Jay-Z, Public Enemy, and so much more.

“Stay tuned, we’ll have more RTJ4 news for you soon,” Run The Jewels concluded, confirming that new music will arrive in the near future.

While it’s currently been close to three years since the release of Run The Jewels 3 – their longest gap between albums to date – we’re feeling confident that with Rick Rubin on board, and fan anticipation reaching fever pitch, we could be set for another huge year from these hip-hop icons.
