In the latest in System Of A Down drama, fans shouldn’t get ready for a new album anytime soon, as Serj Tankian says that the band “haven’t been able to see eye-to-eye creatively.”

Let’s face it – we’re 15 years on from the last System Of A Down album, and the prospects of us getting any new tunes are beginning to look slim to none. It’s not like this news comes at any surprise as the band has stated quite a few times over the years about the difficulties surrounding the possibilities of new tunes.

Back in 2019, guitarist Daron Malakian said that a new album wouldn’t “happen anytime soon”, with drummer John Dolmayan asking for other band mates to “put all the bullshit aside”. Then, Dolmayan spoke out once more saying that he doesn’t see a new album going into the recording stages: “we’re pretty stupid about that”.

Once again, the Californian heavy metal collective have come around to say that it’s unlikely for new music to come because they’re having issues seeing “eye-to-eye”.

In a recent live chat (via Metal Injection), frontman Serj Tankian asked the question that many System Of A Down fans have had on their minds: Why hasn’t the band made anything new in the past 15 years since Mezmerize/Hypnotize?

“There’s been many things said, but it’s quite simple: we just haven’t been able to see eye-to-eye creatively to go to the next level,” Tankian delivered yet another blow to SOAD fans.

“And to me, and I know to the other guys in the band, System’s very special, and what we’ve done together is very special. And we can’t do something unless we’re all really, really into the same direction, into the same goal, into the same vision. And that hasn’t happened.

“We tried. I would say a couple of years ago, we made that effort — songs were written by myself, by the other guys, et cetera, but we just couldn’t see eye-to-eye, and that’s really it. And that’s okay. We’re still all friends, we have great relationships, and we tour together, we have together, and that’s that.”

Echoing what the entire band has previously stated, us System Of A Down fans will still wait in the wings for good news, and hope that another album as brilliant as Toxicity.

This news follows that Tankian recently announced that he’s planning to release an EP chock-full of songs that were originally “in mind for a System record“.
